Join The Beacon Sloop Club and Riverkeeper for a cleanup project on the shores of the Beacon Waterfront, Harbor and Pete and Toshi Seeger Park from 8:45 am to 1:00 pm for the 15th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep. This is a rain or shine event.
Volunteers will meet in front of the Beacon Sloop Club House, 2 Red Flynn Drive, Beacon, NY. Arrive at 8:45 am for coffee and free refreshments. Bring your own reusable cup. Sandi Stratton-Gonzalez, will present a short talk from Mothers Out Front (MOF), which mobilizes mothers and other caretakers to "get out in front" of environmental issues that impact the health of kids and future generations. MOF Dutchess is focused on changing the way Dutchess County manages municipal solid waste. Learn more about the damage caused by this Disposal Model of waste management and the benefits of pivoting to a Recovery Model. Holly O'Grady from Beacon Pollinator Gardens will also be working on the Beacon Sloop Club Pollinator Garden. Parking available on the riverside of the Train Station (free on the weekends).
We recommend all Sweep volunteers to bring a hat, sunscreen, a full reusable water bottle, insect repellent, work gloves and hand sanitizer. Volunteers are welcome to bringwaders and/or muck boots, though, not necessary as it will be low tide.
